Doyalson-Wyee RSL sub-Branch

Providing support to current serving and ex-ADF personnel and their families

History of the Doyalson-Wyee RSL Auxiliary

At the Doyalson-Wyee RSL sub-Branch's general meeting on 17 February 1959, it was decided to form a Doyalson-Mannering Park RSS & AILA Women's Auxiliary. This was ratified at the General meeting held at the Agricultural Bureau Hall on Thursday 7 May 1959 and on 13 May 1959 the RSL Ladies Auxiliary was officially formed.

Like other RSL Auxiliaries across Australia, the Doyalson-Wyee RSL Ladies Auxiliary plays a crucial role in supporting veterans and their families, as well as contributing to the wider community.

Their primary aim has always been to assist the RSL in its core values of welfare, remembrance, and mateship. This involves providing practical support, raising funds, and fostering a sense of community among veterans and their families.

They achieve their primary aim by engaging in various fundraising activities to generate funds for welfare initiatives. These funds support veterans and their dependents with financial assistance, medical expenses, and basic needs. The most significant achievement was in August of 1963 when they raised £371 to purchase the old Wyong Bowling Club house to allow the sub-Branch to have its own club.

The Auxiliary also play an integral part in organising and supporting ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and other commemorative services, ensuring these solemn occasions are respectfully observed.

The Doyalson-Wyee RSL Ladies Auxiliary foster social connections among veterans and their families, reducing isolation and promoting camaraderie.

More recently, the Doyalson-Wyee RSL sub-Branch Auxiliary has been actively involved in making "Thank You For Your Service" quilts for veterans. In November 2022, they donated 11 such quilts to RSL NSW HQ for distribution to veterans in need.

In 2019, RSL NSW adopted a new constitution, allowing auxiliary members to enjoy formal membership of the League. This signifies a recognition of the invaluable contributions of auxiliary members and also means that these groups are becoming more inclusive, referred to simply as "RSL Auxiliary" rather than solely "Women's Auxiliary."

Members of the RSL Auxiliary will be Auxiliary Members. Any RSL NSW Members may, at the invitation of the RSL Auxiliary, participate in, and assist with RSL Auxiliary activities. Auxiliary Members may attend sub-Branch meetings at the invitation of the President. The invitation may be a standing (ongoing) one.
